My Own
A couple days into post-finals decompression, I spent most of today lounging around luxuriating in mindless MTV programming. The standout program is easily a creepy little gem called My Own. First, the producers find some lucky kid with a terribly unhealthy obsession with a singer. Then they audition a stable of contestants who try to win a date with the pining fan by doing their best to mimic the look and sound of the original artist, striving with all their might to mold themselves into a satisfying simacrulum. It's really creepy.
